2023 MotoGP preseason test is done

Sunday in Portimao saw both Repsol Honda Team riders focus on time attacks, Sprint race runs and refinements as Marc Márquez ends the test in 14th.

Perfect conditions saw out the MotoGP pre-season as the Repsol Honda Team completed their testing programme with the rest of the championship in Portimao.

Marc Marquez continued to diligently work as his attention shifted from fully focused on development to beginning to prepare for the coming race weekend in Portugal. The eight-time World Champion completed his first simulation of a new Sprint Race with his longest run of the test. A fall at Turn 1 midway through the final day did little to upset Marquez’s overall testing plan.

The MotoGP World Championship now begins their final preparations before the Grande Premio de Portugal, March 24 – 26, and the start of the longest MotoGP season in history with 21 Grands Prix.

“We had the best feeling of our pre-season today; I was riding well and I was able to do a Sprint Race simulation. Riding for a longer run I was able to focus more on my riding style and keep making improvements there. Our rhythm wasn’t bad and today we worked more towards what will come at the Portugal GP. We were able to make a few steps, of course you want more. The most important thing was that today I had the best feeling with the bike so far.”

Repsol Honda Team present 2023 colours

MotoGP World Champions, Marc Marquez and Joan Mir, unveil their 2023 Honda RC213V in full 2023 livery.

On Wednesday morning, journalists, guests and fans at the Repsol Campus in Madrid, headquarters of the multinational energy company, Marc Marquez and Joan Mir presented the Honda RC213V with which they will compete during the 2023 MotoGP World Championship. The two Spanish riders, sharing ten World Championships between them, join forces in a formidable Repsol Honda Team lineup for the coming season.

Honda and Repsol’s alliance stretches back 29 years, with success and technological development along the way. It is the longest collaboration in the world of motorsports competitions and has seen the team earn 15 World Championships, 183 victories and 454 podiums in the premier class.

Marquez is back at full fitness after some difficult years with injuries. The eight-time World Champion will again aim to fight for the title in his eleventh year with the Repsol Honda Team. In the 154 Grands Prix he has contested with the team, he has 100 podium finishes, of which 59 have been victories, 63 pole positions and six Premier Class titles.

Before the World Championship starts in Portimao (Portugal) on March 26th, the riders will have an official test on March 11 and 12th at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.

It will be an important test in Portimao, as we have some work to do, but the engineers have been working hard in Japan. Focused and productive test day in Valencia for the Repsol Honda Team

Marc Marquez and the Repsol Honda Team got their 2023 preparations underway in earnest with the traditional post-season Valencia test.

Completing 50 laps, Marc Marquez split his time across a number of RC213V machines to determine the direction HRC’s engineers need to follow over the winter. Assessing a number of parts and components for the RC213V, flying laps were not the main focus as the #93 ended the day with the 13th quickest time, a 1’30.676. Marquez was pleased with the first steps made by HRC engineers and is eager to see what will come in February.

Now a busy winter begins for the engineers back at HRC headquarters in Japan and for the riders at home training and in the gym as every works to be as prepared as possible for the next season. MotoGP action will resume in 2023 with the Sepang Test, February 10 – 12 where the newest and latest machines, parts and upgrades will appear for their assault on the 2023 crown.

“It was an important day today. I tried everything I had to try today and we were really focused to finish what we needed to do for Honda, there was no need to put a new tyre and go for a time attack. I was hoping for a little more but we gathered a lot of information and were able to share a lot of feedback with all the engineers inside the garage. It’s good to see that Honda is working and has been able to bring some more parts here and I am already looking forward to seeing what they bring to Malaysia. Now we will enjoy a very short holiday before we begin preparing for 2023 because I need to stay focused and consistent to be as fit and ready as possible.”
