First home race for Márquez

A year ago, Marc Márquez achieved victory at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto, his second after a 2014 triumph at a track where he has earned seven consecutive podiums (a run stretching back to 2012).

Márquez comes into the fourth round of the year 9 points off the top of the overall standings, despite a crash that prevented him from scoring points at the previous race in the USA.

Marc Márquez:
Jerez is always a special race because it is the first in Europe and there’s a lot of support from the Spanish fans. Of course we approach it the same as any weekend, with how tight the championship is we must make the most of every moment on track. The time between America and here has seemed longer than ever, I’m looking forward to getting back out on my bike.”

MÁRQUEZ LEAVES AUSTIN EMPTY-HANDED

The reigning MotoGP World Champion crashes on Lap 9 of the GP of The Americas when leading comfortably.

The Grand Prix of The Americas ended prematurely for Marc Márquez, who crashed out of the race at Turn 12 of Lap 9, when leading the contest by more than 3 seconds.

Three rounds into the season, Márquez is fourth in the MotoGP World Championship standings, nine points behind series leader Andrea Dovizioso.

Marc Márquez:
We have had six amazing years here but today I made a big mistake. When I arrived in the garage I said sorry to the team and now I’d like to say sorry to the fans because it was my mistake. It’s different to make a mistake fighting for fifth and fighting for the win, the level is there. We’re only nine points off the lead. It’s true, we made a mistake but we are human and this can happen. We need to learn from it and understand and come back stronger in Jerez.

Márquez takes dominant victory in Termas de Río Hondo

Repsol Honda Team rider claims series lead after a 45th MotoGP win.

Marc Márquez did not give his rivals a chance at Termas de Río Hondo on Sunday, and claimed his 71st Grand Prix victory -his 45th in MotoGP- in a dominant display from start to finish.

The Repsol Honda rider earned the treble of a race win, fastest lap and pole position, and had topped every practice session bar FP2 on Friday -in which he was eighth. He now holds three wins at the Argentine track.

Marc Márquez:
Today was a perfect day. I have been so concentrated since FP1 and everything worked well, just a tiny hiccup in FP4. But we kept pushing and in the race I knew that my strongest point was the first five laps. I put everything in and then I saw the difference, one second, two seconds, three seconds and then I settled into my rhythm and pushed a little less. I managed the tyres and the bike, it was a really sweet feeling with the bike.”
